Düsseldorf, part 2.

Night time. Concert.

After moving to Düsseldorf in 2024 I saw a picture of an amazing concert hall on one of the city’s Instagram accounts. It was shocking: the hall looked like a huge star in space that flows its light on a wooden stage. Immediately I decided to find a concert in that hall and visit it. Covid had its own plans and the orchestra at the concert which I was supposed to visit fell ill and then the whole event was cancelled.

After some time the idea came back again. This time fingers were crossed even stronger and maybe that’s why it happened (of course not because of that). Me with my wife came to listen a young local orchestra that was performing several pieces from Westside Story musical, Rachmaninov, and Shostakovich music. The hall’s atmosphere complements overall truly magical moments. But I couldn’t imagine that there was not so much space as I was anticipating before the visit. It feels huge on a photograph, but in reality, I had a hard time fitting it into one picture. Drone’s panoramic functions would be very handy here.

Anyway, the concert was amazing. The time flew without us noticing it. And after it was already very dark outside so I decided to try this acidic “Fuji Pro 400h” recipe again but in night conditions. Turns out… Like that. There is something in it. Although, low light photos made me think to do at least RAW backup next time. I’m aiming to get “almost good to go” results straight from the camera’s JPEGs now and get used to not rely on post too much.

I definitely like burned colors of this film recipe. Thanks to them all night light palette can be seen in photos. Maybe it can further improve with more tuning. Or more practice.

In Düsseldorf city center is not that huge. Especially with plenty of stations of underground rails. And especially during cold and rainy months such as February when these photos were made. That’s why you can find almost empty streets before late night. Or on Monday when many restaurants have a “quiet day”. Thanks that not on Sunday.
