Düsseldorf, part 1.

Why part.

Düsseldorf is a very special city for me. Perhaps, because I am living here now. Each city we call home one day takes a special place. This time I didn’t have any other reason to take photos other than to just take them and, of course, learn the camera, and get used to it more. After pure photographic natural experience with film where not a lot of variables are on hand, a digital camera feels a lot more complicated even after understanding most of the abbreviations in its menu.

Spring had not yet come to us, so it was one more cold and windy day. Although, it wasn’t rainy which is a great plus. These photos are taken somewhere between January and February. I prefer to not just upload everything as soon as a bunch of them are done. That’s why I already have more. And more are coming, because even though last year was full of travel, it is not the main purpose of this place. Here is the place to reflect on the journey. And it goes on in parallel with everything else.

Here was one of the most acidic recipes I’ve tried with a Fuji camera. It definitely has a distinct character that won’t work in every condition. But sometimes it gives an interesting punch to colours even if there are not a lot of them. Winter is pretty grey in western Germany. People miss the sun. But without missing something, it can be hard to truly appreciate it.

Parks and birds

I love my city (if I can say so after almost 3 years here). There are several reasons for this. One of them – parks. Düsseldorf has many small and bigger parks all around the city. Doesn’t matter if it is a puzzling center or a calm sleepy neighborhood somewhere on the last stop of Stadtbahn – there is always a green oasis nearby.

And these places always have their own residents.

Here, the film recipe was completely different. Warmer colours, calmer look. Took it from one YouTube video as it was advertised as one of the universal ones and ready for most situations, especially during traveling. I definitely needed one like this.

And lastly, three images of how February looked like to me. Once we had snow – kind of a miracle for this place because the snow lasted more than a couple of hours. Then sunny window that makes you think that it is a great warm day outside (freezing cold in fact), and a grey-ish sky full of rain that will start falling whenever it decides to do so.

Last thoughts for today. Not every day I can think of how great to have an opportunity to do this. Taking photos not only for the purpose of saving them for memories but for the sake of exploring this art and possibilities that everyone now has in their pocket. Step by step there are more and more things that give meaning to these little steps. The main mission is to remind myself about them more frequently. And not count weeks without.
