Digital sunset

Digital camera arrived

After receiving my first digital camera, I finally admitted: there will be a lot of photos. For sure more than “1-2 rolls of film in 1-2 months”. Even now I have already couple of hundreds more on the camera waiting to be reviewed and then posted or removed.

So, what is the most obvious time to go out and click shutter button? Of course, it is sunset. Maybe not the best time to try all settings and film simulations this camera has, because these colors shouldn’t be hidden and thus the simulation choice is more or less obvious.

My city’s dominant – Rheinturm is always cool to be included on photo. Its distinct look never bores me. And it makes Düsseldorf skyline unique.

Most of these photos were taken using Velvia color simulation that has vivid colors and it nice to work afterwards considering that photos were made JPEG only. And this is what I was looking for in camera. Having too many unprocessed RAW files and tight schedule would be tough and sooner or later would make me super anxious about taking new shots without properly calculating time to review and process them beforehand. This would be a considerable time investment which, unfortunately (as always), I don’t have.

There are plenty of custom film recipes in Web. Many of them are worth to try. They can make photos look completely different in one click. And different recipes have completely different character. Like the photo above and below – these were made almost at the same spot with almost the same lightning, but with very different film simulation setups. Yes, it is basically filters. But who said filters are bad for photos?
